A–B
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Account dashboard | The website at haruno.ai/dashboard for your account, usage, organization and QuickBooks connections. | Usage allowance |
| Account name (Parent:Child) | An unnumbered account's full QuickBooks path. Renamed in QuickBooks, it becomes a new, unmapped account. | Adding files to a company |
| Account number | Digits starting a QuickBooks account name, as in 1010 Checking. Haruno relies on them, so decide before the first draft and keep the setting. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Account reconciled elsewhere | An exemption for an account reconciled outside the workbook, such as a bank account in QuickBooks. Quiets recon_coverage only. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Account type | Asset, Liability, Equity, Income, Expense, Other Income or Other Expense; a numbered account's first digit sets it. | The account mapping |
| Accrual basis | The basis every export must use. A close refuses a cash-basis Balance Sheet or Profit and Loss. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Adjustments log | The CSV record of every figure that moved after its month was reported, with the reason, and of every correction recorded in a later month. Every close rewrites it; it posts nothing. | The close lock and reopening |
| Advanced view | A Settings ▸ General switch, off on a new Mac, adding detail and controls. The close and the reports are the same in both views. | Finding your way around |
| Allowance (AI allowance) | What your subscription includes for questions, drafts and scheduled tasks. Importing, drafting the mapping, closing and reading reports use none of it; the questions for management drafted after a close do. | Usage allowance |
| Allowed hosts | Advanced view: sites the secure sandbox may reach without asking. They still apply once the Advanced view is off. | Settings |
| another close is running | The refusal when a close or a mapping draft is already running. The refused request writes nothing. | Closing a month |
| A/P Aging Summary or Detail | An optional report of what the company owes its suppliers, tied at each close to the payable account you name on the review form. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| apply failed | A short close-result label, now seen only where the step gave no reason of its own. When a locked month stopped the close, the row says so in words (“March 2026 is locked, and this close would change 1 figure reported for it. Nothing was written.”), lists the first figures and offers Correct…. If the change is intended, record the difference in a later month with Correct…, or reopen the month and close again. | Closing a month |
| Approval card | The card asking your go-ahead for a step in a chat. The close never raises one. | Approvals and permissions |
| Approve mapping | Records the mapping the company closes with. Draft again removes the approval. | The account mapping |
| A/R Aging Detail | An optional report of open invoices, tied at each close to the receivable account you name on the review form. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Archive company | Takes a company out of the Portfolio and of month-end closes and keeps its books. Right-click it to archive; Restore is in the Portfolio's Archived section. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Ask Haruno (ask buttons) | Buttons such as Explain this finding, Draft the disclosure and Propose a treatment that put a question in the chat box and open the chat beside the page (Staged in chat). Nothing is sent until you send it. | Asking Haruno |
| Assistant | Haruno's chat. It explains, drafts and proposes; it cannot close, reopen or approve a mapping, and it edits a company's mapping file only when you ask. | Asking Haruno |
| Automatic mode | The normal view's approval mode: a safety check lets each step run, asks you, or blocks it. | Approvals and permissions |
| Balance Sheet | A required export, unless Sync brings the months in: on accrual, to Excel, dated the last day of the month you are closing. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Bank reconciliation | Haruno does not reconcile cash to the bank itself. A QuickBooks reconciliation report saved as PDF counts as an account's reconciliation; with a reconciliation workbook, record accounts reconciled in QuickBooks as Account reconciled elsewhere. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Billing export (Stripe invoices) | An optional Stripe invoices CSV for MRR, ARR and churn, read net of tax; an invoice counts as recurring only with a subscription id and a service period. Today only the file the mapping was drafted from, and its numbered copies, are read. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Bonus credit | Credit from a promo code or our team that pays for questions when your plan cannot. It is not paced and does not expire. | Usage allowance |
| Books | Everything Haruno holds for a company: files, mapping and ledger figures. Reports are drawn from them. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Books folder | Where the books live: by default ~/Library/Application Support/Haruno/Books, movable in Settings ▸ Books ▸ Portfolio location. Change it only through Haruno's own controls. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Books menu | The menu-bar menu with Show Portfolio, Add company…, Import Exports…, Review Mapping…, Close Month…, Reopen Month…, Export Portfolio Report… and more. Haruno for Windows has no Books menu. | Finding your way around |
| Budget vs actual | Actual against the budget workbook you keep or QuickBooks' own budget, fiscal year to date; material at $1,000 and 5% off. Worst vs budget names the furthest line. Never a finding. | Metrics reference |
| Burn | The fall in cash between month-ends; Burn (3-mo avg) is the fall in cash over the last three calendar months, per month. It includes financing. | Metrics reference |
C
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| CAC (customer acquisition cost) | Acquisition spend divided by the month's new customers. The review form's Marketing line row lets you change which lines count as acquisition spend. | Metrics reference |
| Cancel (a running close) | Stops a close when the current step finishes, so nothing is left half-posted. | Closing a month |
| Capitalization threshold | The amount at or above which a purchase is capitalized, asked only when the workbook has a fixed-asset register or prepaid schedule. | The account mapping |
| Cash (cash prefixes) | Accounts whose numbers begin with the company's cash prefix (taken at drafting as the full number of each numbered asset account on a balance-sheet line that says cash or bank; an older mapping that states none reads 10). An unnumbered account counts only as an asset the mapping names as a cash account or, where the mapping names none and no number reaches a prefix, as an asset on a balance-sheet line that says cash or bank. The draft names them for a chart with no account numbers, such as QuickBooks' default; the review form's Cash account name lets you add another or take one out; with every one taken out, cash is read the automatic way: by account number, or from the accounts on the balance sheet's cash and bank lines. Where a prefix also begins accounts on lines that are not cash, only the cash and bank accounts count, and burn and runway are withheld. | Metrics reference |
| Check (integrity check) | One of 31 fixed tests at every close: 29 on the books, two on solvency. A check without its file is silent, which is not a pass. | Findings and checks |
| Clean | No open (high or medium) finding; low findings may remain. Portfolio cards and the company list say no open findings; the table's Findings column says clean. | Findings and checks |
| Client | An older word for company in some labels and messages. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Close | One run for a company or the portfolio: post the company's months to the ledger, run the checks, check that each report can be drawn, lock every reported month not yet locked. A month with no Balance Sheet, or exported or synced before it ended, is reported and left open, with a note saying which export locks it. | Closing a month |
| Close ‹month year› (header) | Under a company's name, the latest month-end with balance-sheet figures. It may be open or locked. | The close lock and reopening |
| Close again | Closes the company at once from the Record answer sheet, without the pre-flight. | Closing a month |
| Close result | Per company at the end of a run: Closed, Partly closed (a later step failed; don't send its reports) or Did not close (nothing written). | Closing a month |
| Close state | What the lock recorded for a month (the close-state chip): fully reconciled, reported with exception, not reconciled (no reconciliation for that month, so nothing was tied), not recorded (locked by an earlier version) or open. | The close lock and reopening |
| Collections against revenue | Revenue, less the rise in receivables, plus the rise in deferred revenue: an estimate, not a bank total. | Metrics reference |
| Company | A business in your portfolio. Each counts once for pricing; you can archive one in the app and, on the Mac, delete an archived company's data. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Company details | Name, tax jurisdiction, legal entity type, EIN, address, reporting currency, fiscal year-end and headcount. Haruno for Windows has no address fields, only QuickBooks' address to take. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Company files | The list of a company's files, on the setup page and on the company page's Files tab, with a status: Read, Not read (remove it before you draft) or Not claimed. Read as is on the setup page only. | Adding files to a company |
| Company page | A company's own page from the Portfolio: setup until its first close, then its header, Reports card and tabs. | The Portfolio and company pages |
| Connectors | Optional links to Google, Slack, cloud storage and more, opened from the account menu. None feeds the close; web search is built in. | Connectors |
| Contents sheet (TOC) | The workbook's TOC sheet. Its dates must fall in one month, the month reconciled, or the close stops. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Correct… | The button on a company's result row when a reported month would change. It offers one choice, with your note: record the difference in the next open month, or reopen the month and restate it. | The close lock and reopening |
| CRM export (HubSpot deals) | An optional HubSpot deals CSV: bookings and new customers for CAC. Deals are not revenue. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Custom servers | Advanced view: a connector you add by web address. Most finance teams never need one. | Connectors |
D–F
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Default Permission Mode | Advanced view: each new chat's approval mode, Ask each time by default. | Approvals and permissions |
| Deferred revenue roll-forward | Deferred revenue's opening, movement and closing by month, split into Additions and Recognition when measured. | Metrics reference |
| Delete Company Data… | Beside an archived company in the Portfolio's Archived section on the Mac: erases that company's books for good once you confirm with Delete Data. Its connection on the account dashboard and its data in QuickBooks stay. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Delete local data… | Erases everything Haruno keeps on this Mac, books included, for good, but not the folders Chat and Files work in. Your account remains. | Settings |
| Discard this draft | Deletes an unapproved mapping in a company with no closed month. The files stay. | The account mapping |
| Draft | Draft the mapping reads the files once and writes a draft (What was drafted). It needs a Balance Sheet and a Profit and Loss. | The account mapping |
| Draft again | Replaces the whole mapping, answers included. Given two exports of one statement, it drafts from the one that runs to the latest month and names the one it left out; both are still read when a month closes. A workbook with other sheets in it is still refused. To map only one new account after approval, use Resolve… on its finding. Draft mapping again, on the Mappings tab and beside a file the mapping does not read, is the same run. | The account mapping |
| Drift tolerance | The $1.00 rounding allowance for fixed-asset and prepaid comparisons, not asked yet. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Exception | A schedule and its Per GL differ by a cent or more (recon_exceptions, high). No tolerance or exemption clears it. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Exemption | An accepted exception to one check, recorded in the mapping. It puts no account on a statement. | The account mapping |
| Export… | Saves a report as a PDF and a web page with one name, in a folder you choose. It is in the … menu of a report's row on the Reports card, on the Investor report tab, and as Export Portfolio Report… for the Portfolio report. | The reports |
| Exports | The files a company sends, chiefly QuickBooks reports. Haruno copies them; your originals are never changed. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Fetch now | A button in the Sync QuickBooks task that fetches every connected company's months straight away, whether the task is on or off. | Scheduled tasks |
| Files | The sidebar row (⌘3) showing the folder Chat works in: Haruno's own Workspace folder until you open another with File ▸ Open Folder… (⌘O). | Finding your way around |
| Finding | A figure that is missing, does not add up or is presented wrongly, raised by a check with a severity. It never stops a close. | Findings and checks |
| Findings & questions | The company-page tab where you act on findings and questions. | The Portfolio and company pages |
| First report | A company's first close; it needs a reporting currency, fiscal year-end and approved mapping. On the Portfolio's Close month… sheet a company that isn't ready says why and has an Open company link, and the others still close. | Closing a month |
| Fiscal year-end | Set in Company details. Quarters, years and year to date follow it. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Fixed-asset register | A workbook tab with a Useful Life heading. Haruno recomputes straight-line depreciation against the ledger. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Fully reconciled | The green close state: the books hold a reconciliation for that month and no high or medium finding was open at the lock. Not an audit opinion. With no reconciliation for that month the state is not reconciled instead; a month locked before that state existed keeps fully reconciled until it is reopened and closed again. | The close lock and reopening |
G–L
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Going-concern indicators | Two or more solvency indicators, at least one high (going_concern). Haruno never concludes on going concern. | Findings and checks |
| Gross margin | Revenue less cost of revenue, over revenue, from the company's own lines. | Metrics reference |
| Hidden sheet | A hidden Excel sheet is never imported. Unhide it, save and add the file again. | Adding files to a company |
| History | Your past chats (⌘4). In the Months sheet, a month's History lists its closes and reopenings, with reasons. | Chat and history |
| Import Books from a Folder… | Copies companies from an earlier version's folder. It never moves anything. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Import Exports… | Adds files to a company that has a mapping. It never changes the mapping. | Adding files to a company |
| ingest of <file name> failed | A short close-result label, now seen only where the reader gave no reason. The row usually says “'<file name>' couldn’t be read (…). Export it again, or take it out of the company’s files, then close again.” and offers Remove from Company; the pre-flight gives the same sentence before you close. The company did not close. | Closing a month |
| Investor report | One company's figures for its investors, without findings, mappings, reconciliation or the close state. It carries your comment and a review stamp, and you can leave out sections. | The reports |
| Journal entry | Haruno posts none. Book corrections in QuickBooks; they arrive with the next Sync or corrected export. | How Haruno works |
| Ledger | Each account's monthly balances and activity, filled from the company's exports or synced months by every close. No transactions; nothing goes back to QuickBooks. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Lock (close lock) | Haruno's record that a month was reported, set by every completed close; only a reopening lets its figures change. It does not stop posting in QuickBooks. | The close lock and reopening |
| Lock summary | The header line, such as 41 months locked · 1 still open · unresolved: recon_exceptions. | The close lock and reopening |
| Locked months (pre-flight) | A note under Will close: “N months are locked, through X. If a figure in one of them would change, this company won’t close until that month is reopened.” It stops nothing. A close that would change a figure in a locked month is refused, names the months and offers Correct…. | The close lock and reopening |
| Lumpy by nature | Your answer that an account's costs are uneven by nature; its question moves to Not asked. | Findings and checks |
M–O
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Mapping | How a company's exports or synced months become statements: lines, account placement, policies, exemptions. Haruno drafts it; you approve it. Some messages say spec. | The account mapping |
| Mappings tab | Each account and its statement line, for reading. approved ✓ means the line comes from the approved mapping, not a row sign-off. | The account mapping |
| Materiality | Drafted at $1,000; below it, a missing schedule is not worth chasing. It never softens a reconciliation status. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Memory | Notes Haruno keeps on your Mac about you and your work, carried into new chats. | Memory |
| Months sheet | Opened from the header's close-state chip: each month's state, lock time and History, with Reopen… and Restatements…. | The close lock and reopening |
| MRR, ARR, churn | Monthly recurring revenue: each subscription's monthly rate net of tax, averaged over the days it is active in the month, as billed, not collected; ARR is MRR × 12. Churn counts customers lost, not revenue. | Metrics reference |
| New company defaults (Books defaults) | Settings ▸ Books: suggested materiality, threshold and more for new companies. Changing one never restates a closed month. | Settings |
| No report yet | What a card reads for a company that has not closed a month. It never shows a zero. | Your portfolio and companies |
| No spec section claims <file> | The mapping has no part for that file, so the close skipped it. Draft again would read it, but replaces every answer. | Closing a month |
| Normal view | Advanced view off: the assistant works in your open folder (Haruno's own Workspace folder to begin with), with the books beside it read-only, always in the secure sandbox, in Automatic mode. | Finding your way around |
| Not asked | The card of answered questions, each with Ask this again — drop the exemption. | Findings and checks |
| Not reconciled | The grey close state: the close found nothing unresolved, but the books hold no reconciliation for that month, so no account was tied to one. “Nothing was reconciled when this month was closed.” It is not a finding. | The close lock and reopening |
| open | As a close state, not locked. As a reconciliation status, no difference computed, so untested. An open finding is high or medium. | The close lock and reopening |
| Operating expense categories | Lines in the operating-expenses subtotal, behind the category chart, Category detail and the Variance watchlist; Profit and Loss by Class splits them by department. | Metrics reference |
| Operating inputs | A workbook you keep for headcount, new customers and bookings. A headcount can also be entered in Company details. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Organization | Accounts grouped on the account dashboard; on a seat plan, members share its plan and an organization pool. Members share its list of QuickBooks companies, never books. | Usage allowance |
| Organization Google app | A Google app an organization has registered so members' Google sign-ins can do more, such as read mail. Registering one is not offered in the account dashboard at the moment. | Organization Google app |
| Orphan line | A statement line with no account mapped to it, reading zero forever (orphan_lines). | Findings and checks |
| Overview | The company-page tab of tiles, range picker (All, 6M, 3M) and cards. | The Portfolio and company pages |
P–Q
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Partial month (column) | A Profit and Loss column covering part of a month, skipped with “column 'Sep 1-23 2026' covers only part of September 2026, so its figures are not imported…”. Export it again once the month has ended. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Payback | CAC divided by (an arriving customer's monthly rate × gross margin), in months. | Metrics reference |
| Per GL, Per schedule, Difference | The ledger balance a schedule ties to, the schedule's own total, and the gap between them, computed by Haruno. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Period over period | The latest complete month, quarter or year against the one before; quarters and years follow the fiscal year. | Metrics reference |
| Plan | Your account's plan name, which sets the size of your allowance. It is not a price. | Usage allowance |
| Playbook | Chat instructions you save and run with a slash command. | Chat and history |
| Portfolio | The home page (⌘1): tiles, then every company as a card or table row (with a health dot). Add and close companies here. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Portfolio report | What Export Portfolio Report… saves as a PDF and a web page: every company's figures, findings and reconciliation status on one page, headed CFO Dashboard. It is for your practice only. | The reports |
| Portfolio tiles | Companies, Combined cash, Combined burn, Under 12 mo runway, Companies with findings, Going-concern indicators. Combined tiles read — when currencies differ. | Metrics reference |
| Posting to the ledger | The close step recording every account's figures, all or nothing. Nothing posts if a locked month would move. | Closing a month |
| Pre-flight | The first view of the Close month sheet (Close month…): Will close or Will not close per company. It writes nothing. | Closing a month |
| Prepaid schedule | A workbook tab with # of mos and Start Date headings; each contract amortizes straight-line against the ledger. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Preview panel | The panel beside the chat where documents open and are saved as PDF. Its Activities tab lists Haruno's steps. | Finding your way around |
| Profit and Loss | A required export, unless Sync brings the months in: monthly activity, on accrual, to Excel, one column per month. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Promo code | A grant from our team, redeemed once on the account dashboard. | Redeem a promo code |
| Question | A pattern you judge, such as a possible prepayment. It has no severity and is never a finding. | Findings and checks |
| Questions for management | Questions Haruno drafts for each company after a close, for you to edit and send; nothing in them is sent to anyone. They top the Findings & questions tab. Drafting uses your allowance and needs you signed in. | Findings and checks |
| QuickBooks Online | Where your companies keep their books. Haruno works alongside it and connects to it: Sync reads a company's months, and nothing is ever written to QuickBooks. | QuickBooks Online |
R
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Re-run checks | Runs the checks again. It closes and locks nothing. | Findings and checks |
| Read as | What Haruno recognized a file as, such as Automatic (Profit and Loss). A choice applies to every file, so leave QuickBooks files on Automatic. | Adding files to a company |
| Read for its shape only | A workbook whose saved values were stripped, so nothing imports. Save it in Excel and add it again. | Adding files to a company |
| Reason (reopening) | What changed, why and on whose decision, kept for good. Placeholders such as tbd are refused. | The close lock and reopening |
| Recon exceptions | The count of schedules in exception at the close month. Open schedules are not counted. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Reconciled | A schedule's total equals its Per GL to the cent. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Reconciliation binder (binder) | The report drawn from the workbook or the QuickBooks reconciliation reports, listed as Reconciliation on the Reports card: statuses, Coverage alerts and each schedule against the ledger. Some messages call the workbook itself a binder. | The reports |
| Reconciliation workbook | The company's optional Excel file of month-end reconciliations: a contents sheet and a tab per account. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Reconciling item | There is no reconciling-items section: a timing difference leaves the account in exception. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Remove from Company | Moves Haruno's copy of a file to the Trash. Offered for any file before the company's first close. After that it is offered for a file no close has read: one added or changed since the last close, one the mapping leaves out, one the import refused, or one Haruno could not read. A file a close has read stays: its figures are in the months already reported. | Adding files to a company |
| Reopen | Puts locked months back to open, with a reason, from the Months sheet. It cannot be withdrawn. | The close lock and reopening |
| Report scale | Whether the statements show dollars (1) or thousands (1000). | The account mapping |
| Reported with exception | The red close state: a high or medium finding was open at the lock. The month is locked all the same. | The close lock and reopening |
| Reporting currency | The company's one currency. Nothing is converted, and it is fixed once a month has closed. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Reports card | The card on a company's page, and in each closed company's close result, with a row for each report: Statements, Reconciliation (when the company has reconciliations), Investor report and the Adjustments log. | The reports |
| Require confirmation | A connector switch that makes each action in your name ask first. | Approvals and permissions |
| Resolve… | Records an answer on the Record answer sheet for recon_coverage, orphan_lines, unused_exemption or unmapped_active_account (where you choose the statement line the account belongs on). Straight after a close it is on the finding; if it is missing, for example after you reopen Haruno, press Re-run checks. | Findings and checks |
| Restatement | A reported figure that changed after a reopening. The same figures after a reopening are not a restatement, and neither is a difference recorded in a later month with Correct…. | The close lock and reopening |
| Retained copy | Haruno's read-only copy of each file a close reads, kept as evidence. | The reports |
| Review form | Where you answer the Needs your attention rows and check the Check and confirm rows, then press Approve mapping. Preview changes writes nothing. Unanswered rows stop neither approval nor a close. | The account mapping |
| Runway | Cash ÷ Burn (3-mo avg) while cash falls: red under 6 months, amber under 12. The solvency card states its own runway and basis. | Metrics reference |

| Save as PDF… | Makes a PDF from the preview panel's Export or share the document menu; Share… makes the same PDF. A report is exported with Export… instead, which prints the same PDF. It is always in the light colors, whatever your Theme. A wide statement or binder is fitted to the page in blocks of months that repeat the row labels, and a table that runs onto another page starts it with its headings. Print… prints the same PDF, so it has the same blocks of months, repeated headings and margin. The print panel still chooses the printer, the paper and the copies; a page that does not match the paper is turned to fit it and scaled down, never enlarged. A report's web page printed from a browser also prints every month, but the paper, margins and scale are the browser's. | The reports |
| Saved as ‹name› 2.xlsx, beside the earlier file. | A file with that name was already there, so the new one is saved beside it. When Haruno could read it and the mapping reads it, the row adds that the close reads it after the earlier one, so its figures count. A copy Haruno could not read or did not recognize says only that it was saved beside the earlier file; its label says the rest. If the mapping does not read it, the row says Copied · Not in the mapping and the next close leaves it out. | Adding files to a company |
| Schedule | One numbered workbook tab, read by its headings (a roll-forward has Beg Bal and End Bal) and tied to Per GL. | Balance-sheet reconciliation |
| Scheduled task | An instruction run on its own at set times (⌘5). It uses your allowance and cannot close, reopen or lock. The built-in Sync QuickBooks task uses none. | Scheduled tasks |
| Secure sandbox | Where the assistant works, isolated on your Mac; always on in the normal view (Sandboxed Engine in the Advanced view). The close never uses it. | Data handling and security |
| Setup page | A company's page before its first close: Add data › Propose mapping › Review the draft › Ready to close. Its card reads Add data or Continue setup. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Severity | High (red), medium (amber) or low (gray). High and medium findings from the checks on the books are open and set the close state. | Findings and checks |
| Short labels | The old short reasons: apply failed, ingest of <file name> failed (Did not close); checks failed, statements failed, recon failed, investor file failed (Partly closed). A close row now says why in its own words, and shows one of these only where a step gave no reason. | Closing a month |
| Sign in / Sign out | Links this Mac to your account, needed to chat and to add or sync a QuickBooks company, not to close. Sign out keeps your books. | Install Haruno on your Mac |
| Solvency and going concern | The first Overview card: working capital, current ratio, runway and the indicators that fired. | Metrics reference |
| Solvency indicator | Current ratio below 1, negative equity, deferred revenue above total assets, or operating runway under 12 months. Not a finding; never sets the close state. | Findings and checks |
| Statement line | A header, a detail line or a computed total, captioned as in QuickBooks. Only a line the draft names itself can be renamed, before the first close. | The account mapping |
| Statement of Cash Flows | An optional report giving the runway from operating cash flow and feeding four checks: cash_flow_classification, cash_flow_section_does_not_foot, cash_flow_does_not_roll and cash_flow_disagrees_with_profit_and_loss. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Statement package | What the Statements row of the Reports card exports: the Financial Reporting Package, with notes such as Restated periods, Out-of-period adjustments and Issued with unresolved findings. It names open findings, so it is not for investors. | The reports |
| Sync | Copies a connected company's months from QuickBooks onto your computer. Haruno only reads QuickBooks; a month goes into the books once you close it. | QuickBooks Online |
| Sync QuickBooks | The task at the top of Scheduled (⌘5), off until you turn it on, that syncs every connected company at set times while Haruno is running. Haruno for Windows has a Sync schedule… on each company instead. | Scheduled tasks |
T–Z
| Term | What it means in Haruno | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Tie gap / Tie-out | Reads the balance sheet's check row. QuickBooks-drafted mappings have none, so the tile reads — with “not tested: the balance sheet has no check row”, and bs_tieout does the testing. The Portfolio table and the Portfolio report do the same. | Metrics reference |
| Transaction List by Vendor | An optional invoice-level cost report, for the questions and detail_disagrees_with_statement. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Trial Balance | An optional report that feeds three checks and is set against the trial balance Haruno calculates from the books. | What to export from QuickBooks Online |
| Unmapped account | An account with figures on no statement line (unmapped_active_account). Resolve… on its finding maps it to a line you choose; Draft again maps it too but replaces every answer. | The account mapping |
| Usage | The account dashboard page with the Current session (5h) and Weekly limit meters. The Mac app shows no meters. | Usage allowance |
| Use QuickBooks from now on… | A button on a linked Excel company's page that moves its books to QuickBooks: its closed months are reopened and restated at the first close after you approve the new mapping. Keep using Excel cancels the move until then. | Your portfolio and companies |
| Useful life | The months over which an asset depreciates. Not asked yet, so a fixed-asset register is compared only with the ledger. | The account mapping |
| Variance | A business fact, such as a line over budget. Never a finding. | Metrics reference |
| Variance watchlist | Category months at least $1,000 and 15% off their trailing three-month average. | Metrics reference |
| Waiting | Where a scheduled task holds emails and other outward actions for you to send, edit or discard, unless it is set to send on its own. Scheduled tasks are not given Slack or any server added in Connectors, so nothing from them can post there. | Scheduled tasks |
| Website prompt | Let Haruno open this website?: asked before the sandbox reaches a site outside its allowed list. | Approvals and permissions |
| Will close / Will not close | The pre-flight's verdict per company. Will not close gives the reason, such as no approved mapping, a mapping with no Balance Sheet or Profit and Loss, a mapping that reads none of the company's files, a Balance Sheet run before its month ended or a file that cannot be read; a company that isn't ready doesn't hold back the others. Locked months are only a note. Every file in the company's folder is opened, and the first one that cannot be read is named. Whether a locked figure would move, and any finding, is found out only when the close runs. | Closing a month |
| Windows app | Haruno for Windows. It has the Portfolio, companies, mapping, close, lock and reports, and the chat assistant, on the same account and allowance; some screens and shortcuts differ. | Haruno on Windows |
| Year to date (YTD) | From the month the company's fiscal year opens to the latest month; the calendar year to date for a December year-end. | Metrics reference |
Check ids
A finding shows a readable title, given here beside its check id. The app prints the id itself after “unresolved:”; the finding's own sentence states the figures. Each check in full: The checks. How severity sets the close state: Severities and Close states.
| Check id | What it tells you | Severity |
|---|---|---|
| aging_disagrees_with_balance | “Aging does not match the ledger”. The A/R or A/P aging misses the receivable or payable accounts you named by more than materiality. | High |
| bs_tieout | “Balance sheet does not balance”. Assets do not equal liabilities and equity, to the cent. | High |
| budget_line_uncomparable | “Budget period does not overlap”. A category is budgeted only outside the reported period. | Medium |
| budget_line_unmatched | “Budget category is unmatched”. A category matches no profit-and-loss line. | Medium |
| budget_months_short | “Budget months are missing”. Reported months have no budget in any category. | Medium |
| cash_flow_classification | “Review cash-flow classification”. Borrowing shown in operating activities (financing under ASC 230). Needs an imported statement of cash flows. Also raised, without one, for a cash account prefix that also begins accounts that are not cash. | High; medium with no operating subtotal, or for a cash prefix |
| cash_flow_disagrees_with_profit_and_loss | “Cash-flow income does not match profit and loss”. An imported statement of cash flows starts from a net income that the books' profit and loss does not make over the same months. | High |
| cash_flow_does_not_roll | “Cash flow does not reconcile”. An imported statement of cash flows does not roll: its activities do not add up to the net change in cash, or opening cash plus that change is not closing cash. | High |
| cash_flow_section_does_not_foot | “Cash-flow section does not add up”. A section total in an imported statement of cash flows is not what its lines add up to. | Medium |
| class_total_disagrees | “Class totals do not match”. The by-class split misses the month's activity. | High |
| deferred_rollforward_drift | “Deferred revenue does not roll forward”. Deferred revenue's roll-forward misses the closing balance beyond materiality. | Medium |
| detail_disagrees_with_statement | “Detail does not match the statement”. Vendor rows exceed the statement's figure beyond materiality. | Medium |
| evidence_integrity | “Check retained evidence”. A retained copy is missing, changed or unreadable. No figure is affected. | Medium |
| going_concern | “Going-concern conditions need evaluation”. Two or more solvency indicators, at least one high. | High, never counted as open |
| missed_accrual | “Accrual may be missing”. A steady cost posted nothing one month and about double the next: a likely cut-off error. | Medium |
| ni_crosscheck | “Net income does not match”. Fiscal year-to-date net income disagrees with the balance sheet's Net Income row. | High |
| operating_count_disagrees | “Operating count does not match”. A hand-kept customer count disagrees with the CRM's closed-won deals. | Medium |
| orphan_lines | “Statement line has no accounts”. A statement line has no account mapped to it. | Medium |
| presentation_tieout | “Statement presentation does not balance”. A reporting package's check row is not zero. | High |
| recon_coverage | “Reconciliation is missing”. A balance at or above materiality has no schedule and no exemption. | Medium |
| recon_exceptions | “Reconciliation has exceptions”. A schedule does not tie to the ledger to the cent. | High |
| recon_gl_mismatch | “Reconciliation uses a different ledger balance”. A schedule's own Per GL is not the ledger balance. | High |
| schedule_drift | “Schedule needs review”. A register or prepaid schedule disagrees with the ledger or the capitalization threshold. | Medium; sometimes low |
| schedule_movement_unexplained | “Ledger lines do not explain the balance”. A schedule account's balance moved in a month by an amount its QuickBooks ledger lines do not add up to; a synced company only. | Medium |
| solvency | “Solvency indicator”. A solvency indicator fired. | By indicator, never counted as open |
| statement_disagrees_with_trial_balance | “Statement does not match the trial balance”. A statement figure differs from the trial balance beyond materiality. | High |
| trial_balance_account_unpresented | “Trial-balance account is absent from statements”. A trial-balance account with a balance is on no statement. | High |
| trial_balance_unbalanced | “Trial balance does not balance”. The trial balance does not net to zero, or its TOTAL row disagrees. | High |
| unmapped_active_account | “Active account is unmapped”. An account with figures has no statement line. | High |
| unmapped_empty_account | “Empty account is unmapped”. An unmapped account has been zero everywhere so far. | Low |
| unused_exemption | “Exemption or policy is unused”. An exemption covers nothing. Its subject starts with recon_exempt, ask_exempt, orphan_exempt or policy.useful_life_months. | Medium |
Question ids
| Question id | What it asks |
|---|---|
| prepaid_candidate | Whether a large month or invoice was a prepayment expensed on payment. |

Symbols and abbreviations
Most misreadings come from a dash read as a zero, or a check mark that tested nothing.
| Symbol or short form | What it means | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| — (a dash) | The figure could not be stated. Never a zero. A tie gap with no balance-sheet check row reads — and “not tested: the balance sheet has no check row”; Recon exceptions with no binder reads — and “no reconciliation binder for this close”. | Everywhere |
| ✓ | Tie gap: within a cent (with no check row it reads —, not ✓). Recon exceptions: none in exception, not that every schedule tied. Findings card: no findings. | Overview |
| ⚠ | A binder row whose own ending balance differs from the recomputation. Check it by hand; it is not a finding. | Reconciliation binder |
| (1,259) | A negative amount. Tiles use a minus sign. | Tables and reports |
| ('000) or “in thousands” | An export banner that makes the draft present statements in thousands. | Exports |
| $3.95M, $268k | A rounded amount, exact below $1,000. | Tiles and charts |
| BS, PL | Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss. | The mapping draft |
| Q1 FY2026, FY2026 | Fiscal quarters and years, named for the calendar year the fiscal year ends in. | Period over period |
| ASC 230, ASC 205-40 | The US GAAP topics for cash flows and for going concern. | Findings |
| UTC | Times in the Months and Restatements sheets, shown without a time zone. | Months sheet |
| ⌘1 to ⌘6 | Portfolio, Chat, Files, History, Scheduled; ⌘6 is Git, only in the Advanced view inside a Git repository. | Sidebar |
| … (on a report's row) | Export… on the Statements, Reconciliation and Investor report rows; Open, Reveal in Finder and Save a Copy… on the Adjustments log row. | Reports card |

|---|---|---|
| Finding, question, solvency indicator, variance | A finding is a defect in the books; a question is a pattern you judge; a solvency indicator is a fact about the company; a variance is a business fact. Only high and medium findings set the close state. | Findings and checks |
| Sync, close | Sync copies a connected company's months onto your computer and changes no figure in the books. Close month posts them to the ledger, runs the checks and locks them. | QuickBooks Online |
| Will close, Closed, fully reconciled | The pre-flight's forecast, what the run did, and what the lock recorded for a month. | The close lock and reopening |
| Statement package, reporting package, investor report | The report for management and your file; your own Excel package, read in place of exports; and the cut for investors. | The reports |
| Dashboard (three meanings) | A company's page after its first close, the CFO Dashboard heading on the Portfolio report that Export Portfolio Report… makes, and the account dashboard website. | The Portfolio and company pages |
| Findings counts | The Portfolio counts open findings only. A close result counts everything its run returned, low findings and solvency indicators included. | Findings and checks |
| Sign out, Delete local data…, delete the account | Sign out keeps your Mac's data; Delete local data… erases it; Delete account and data, on the account dashboard, removes the account, not your Mac's data, and does not cancel a subscription. | Settings |
| Price, plan and allowance | The price is $300 per company in your portfolio per month, tax included. The plan name sets your allowance, which importing and closing do not use; the questions for management drafted after a close do. | Pricing and billing |
