Fix a reported month, and choose what the investor report shows

Fix a figure in a month you have already reported

Sometimes a new export changes a month you closed and sent out. Until now the only way forward was to reopen that month and do it again.

The company's row now offers Correct…. One sheet tells you how much the month's profit would move, what share of revenue that is, and whether it is big enough to matter for this company. Then you pick one of two answers, with the recommended one already chosen:

  • Record in the next open month. The reported month stays exactly as you sent it, and the difference goes into the first month you have not reported yet, in the same accounts, with your note.
  • Reopen and restate. Go back and fix the month itself.

Either way the correction is written down. It appears in the statement package and in the Restatements table, listed apart from a full restatement. If a later export puts the figure back where it was, the correction goes away again, as long as that later month is still open.

Choose what the investor report shows

Each section of a company's Investor report now has an eye next to its heading. Click it and the section stays on screen, greyed out, with the eye crossed through: it will not be in the report you export.

A section with no figures in it hides itself and says so, and comes back on its own once there are figures to show. Hiding a section does not change any number, so it never clears a review you have already signed off.

More QuickBooks reports, read

  • An A/P Aging report, Summary or Detail, now tells Haruno what the company owes as of the date of the report.
  • A Recurring Template List is read as the company's schedules. Nothing in it counts as a transaction; it is there for you and the assistant to look at.
  • Some reports cannot be used — an A/R Aging Summary or a Vendor Balance, for example. They now say so when you add them, say why, and name the report to export instead. Before, they looked fine at import and only turned up missing at the close.
  • A PDF that is not a QuickBooks reconciliation report now tells you to export that report to Excel instead.
  • The Files tab marks files the company's mapping does not read and says the next close will leave them out. Draft mapping again… sits beside them, and next to Review mapping… on the Mappings tab.
  • If a file is an export of a different company, the import says so and names both companies, so a file dropped on the wrong company is easy to spot.

A company can keep its address

You can type a company's address when you create it, and change it later in Company details, along with its country. It shows on the company's details card and prints on the investor report you send out. It is optional, and nobody but you ever writes it.

Smaller things

  • When the assistant projects a company's year, it uses every month since the company's first figures, and says which number is a projection and which is a run rate.
  • Restated figures print in the company's own currency instead of always in dollars.
  • Reopening a month after a close was refused no longer says there is nothing to reopen.
  • Discarding a prepared cloud change asks first and explains what it will undo. Unlike a draft, you cannot get it back afterwards.
  • The sheets for reopening a month, closing one and recording an answer are as tall as they need to be, and a company's cash and burn cards stay the same height.
  • Files that arrived since the last close are easier to pick out in the list.
